Our Engagement Party + Tips

As most of you know, JT and I got engaged last summer in the Virgin Islands (you can read about our engagement and watch the proposal video here). We knew right away we wanted to take our time planning the wedding which is why we JUST had our engagement party, almost a whole year later lol. So, where do I even start? I should probably start with my parents, who are absolutely AMAZING. They worked so hard to plan this party and I honestly can't thank them enough for everything. My mom knew exactly what I wanted and executed it perfectly. Also, my aunt and uncle flew in from Dallas and they were such a big help!

The party took place at my parents house/my childhood home that they actually just put on the market (heartbreaking) so it was like the last hoorah. We had an open bar, a ridiculous amount of food (shout out to Champagne Taste Catering the food was SO GOOD) and a band which I was not expecting at first! I guess I shouldn't underestimate my moms party planning. We had a little mishap with the band a few days before and they ended up bailing! My mom was freaking out, but my dad swooped in and saved the day! He called a local restaurant that has live music every week and got their band list. He emailed a few bands and immediately got responses! WHEW. It was so nice to have live music playing at the party.

JT and I had the time of our lives celebrating with so many people we love, the party turned out to be a dream and such a sweet celebration. I wish we could do it all over again! Keep scrolling for more details, photos, the video JT put together, and some tips for planning an engagement party!

1. Tell your guests ahead of time. I told most of my guests months ahead but we sent out invitations one month before the party.

2. Don't sweat the small stuff. There's always an alternative.

3. Have games/entertainment to keep people occupied. We had two sets of corn hole boards that were a hit at the party. We also had a "guess how many kisses" contest and whoever guessed the closest won a prize.

4. Make sure there is food that everyone will like and there is plenty of it. If people are drinking they need to be eating!

5. Make a family fun playlist or hire a small band. We had an instrumental jazz band it was so nice to have in the background of all of the conversation.

6. Send thank you notes to those who brought gifts. It's the polite thing to do.
